Program Director Welcome to the Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) Program at Texas Southmost College! The MLT Program's mission is to respond to the employability and educational needs of the community by training ethical professionals to perform competently as medical laboratory technicians. Texas Southmost College, along with the clinical affiliates' collaboration, provides the basic Medical Laboratory skills training necessary for graduates to be successful in the profession. Laboratory professionals play a crucial role in the detection, diagnosis, and treatment of disease. They are employed in hospitals, clinics, blood bank centers, and doctor's offices. The MLT program has earned the recognition and respect of the healthcare community, evidenced by the 95 % employability rate of its graduates. The MLT is a 2-year program and is nationally accredited by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS). Upon satisfactory completion of all requirements, the student is eligible to receive an Associate Degree in Applied Science. Graduates are eligible to take the Medical Laboratory Technician certification examination offered by the Board of Registry of the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (MLT ASCP), and the American Medical Technologist (MLT AMT). Students given the opportunity to enter the program will have experienced faculty who will respond to their ethical educational developmental needs to help ensure their future professional success in the field.
