RADR 1411 Basic Radiographic Procedures
Prerequisite: BIO 2301, 2101, 2302, & 2102 & acceptance into rad tech program
Course Level: Introductory
Course Description: An introduction to radiographic positioning terminology, the proper manipulation of equipment, positioning and alignment of the anatomic structure and equipment, and evaluation of images for proper demonstration of basic anatomy.
Learning Outcomes:Define radiographic positioning terms; manipulate equipment; perform basic level procedures in positioning; align anatomic structures and equipment; and evaluate images.

RADR 1213 Principles of Radiographic Imaging I
Prerequisite: BIO 2301, 2101, 2302, & 2102 & acceptance into rad tech program
Course Level: Introductory
Course Description: Radiographic image quality and the effects of exposure variables.
Learning Outcomes: Apply the basic principles of radiographic image acquisition to image quality; and analyze the effects of exposure variables upon image quality.

RADR 1309 Introduction to Radiography and Patient Care

Prerequisite: BIO 2301, 2101, 2302, & 2102 & acceptance into rad tech program
Course Level: Introductory
Course Description: An overview of the historical development of radiography, basic radiation protection, an introduction to medical terminology, ethical and legal issues for health care professionals, and an orientation to the profession and to the health care system. Patient assessment, infection control procedures, emergency and safety procedures, communication and patient interaction skills, and basic pharmacology are also included.
Learning Outcomes: Define basic medical terms; identify ethical and legal standards; explain basic radiation protection practices; assess patient condition; describe infection control procedures; recognize and respond to emergency situations; and identify relevant pharmaceuticals and their applications

RADR 1166 Practicum I
Prerequisite: RADR 1411, 1231, 1309

The following special Clinical Requirements apply to all clinical assignments:

  • A physical exam, up-to-date immunizations and CPR Certification are required of all students prior to clinical assignments.
  • Criminal background checks will be required of Radiology students prior to clinical assignments
  • Hospital orientation is required prior to clinical assignment
  • A Signed Confidentiality statement form on file prior clinical assignment

Course Description: Practical, general workplace training supported by an individualized learning plan developed by the employer, college, and student.

Learning Outcomes: As outlined in the learning plan, apply the theory, concepts, and skills involving specialized materials, tools, equipment, procedures, regulations, laws, and interactions within and among political, economic, environmental, social, and legal systems associated with the occupation and the business/industry and will demonstrate legal and ethical behavior, safety practices, interpersonal and teamwork skills, and appropriate written and verbal communication skills using the terminology of the occupation and the business/industry.

RADR 1167 Practicum II
Prerequisite: RADR 1166, 1411, 1231, 1309

Course Level: Intermediate or Advanced

Course Description: Practical, general workplace training supported by an individualized learning plan developed by the employer, college, and student.

Learning Outcomes: As outlined in the learning plan, apply the theory, concepts, and skills involving specialized materials, tools, equipment, procedures, regulations, laws, and interactions within and among political, economic, environmental, social, and legal systems associated with the occupation and the business/industry and will demonstrate legal and ethical behavior, safety practices, interpersonal and teamwork skills, and appropriate written and verbal communication skills using the terminology of the occupation and the business/industry.

RADR 2309 Radiographic Imaging Equipment
Prerequisite: RADR 1260
Course Level: Intermediate
Course Description: Equipment and physics of x-ray production. Includes basic x-ray circuits. Also examines the relationship of conventional and digital equipment components to the imaging process.
Learning Outcomes: Differentiate between conventional and digital equipment; explain the physics of x-ray production; describe x-ray circuits; and relate conventional and digital equipment components to the imaging process

RADR 2305 Principles of Radiographic Imaging II
Prerequisite: RADR 1213 & 1261
Course Level: Intermediate
Course Description: Continuation of Radiographic image quality and the effects of exposure variables, and the synthesis of all variables in image production. 
Learning Outcomes: Analyze image quality; utilize procedures for minimizing patient exposure; and adapt technical variables to changing conditions.

RADR 1267 Practicum III
Prerequisite: RADR 1166, 1167, 1411, 1231, 1309

Course Level: Intermediate or Advanced

Course Description: Practical, general workplace training supported by an individualized learning plan developed by the employer, college, and student.

Learning Outcomes: As outlined in the learning plan, apply the theory, concepts, and skills involving specialized materials, tools, equipment, procedures, regulations, laws, and interactions within and among political, economic, environmental, social, and legal systems associated with the occupation and the business/industry and will demonstrate legal and ethical behavior, safety practices, interpersonal and teamwork skills, and appropriate written and verbal communication skills using the terminology of the occupation and the business/industry.

RADR 2266 Practicum IV
Prerequisite: RADR 1166, 1167, 1267, 1411, 1231, 1309, 2309, 2305

RADR 2331 Advanced Radiographic Procedures
Prerequisite: RADR 2360, 2305, 2309 & 2217

Prerequisite: RADR 2301/2401 or RADR 1311/1411
Course Level: Advanced
Course Description: Continuation of positioning; alignment of the anatomic structure and equipment, evaluation of images for proper demonstration of anatomy and related pathology.
Learning Outcomes: Perform advanced level procedures in positioning; align anatomic structures and equipment; and evaluate images.

RADR 2313 Radiation Biology and Protection
Prerequisite: RADR 2360, 2305, 2309 & 2217
Course Level: Intermediate
Course Description: Effects of radiation exposure on biological systems. Includes typical medical exposure levels, methods for measuring and monitoring radiation, and methods for protecting personnel and patients from excessive exposure.
Learning Outcomes: Describe the biophysical mechanisms of radiation damage on humans; indicate typical dose ranges for routine radiographic procedures; describe basic methods and instruments for radiation monitoring, detection, and measurement; and implement radiation protection practices.

RADR 2166 Practicum V
Prerequisite: RADR 1166, 1167, 1267, 2266, 1411, 1231, 1309, 2309, 2305, 2331, 2313

Course Level: Intermediate or Advanced

Course Description: Practical, general workplace training supported by an individualized learning plan developed by the employer, college, and student.

Course Description: A capstone course focusing on the synthesis of professional knowledge, skills, and attitudes in preparation for professional employment and lifelong learning.
Learning Outcomes: Demonstrate entry level proficiency in knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary for professional employment; and articulate the need for lifelong learning.

RADR 2233 Advanced Medical Imaging
RADR 2262
Course Level: Advanced
Course Description: Specialized imaging modalities. Includes concepts and theories of equipment operations and their integration for medical diagnosis.
Learning Outcomes: Differentiate the specialized imaging modalities and associated equipment; and identify and compare anatomy as imaged by different modalities.

RADR 2367 Practicum VII
Prerequisite: RADR 1166, 1167, 1267, 2266, 2166, 2167, 1411, 1231, 1309, 2309, 2305, 2331, 2313

Course Level: Intermediate or Advanced

Course Description: Practical, general workplace training supported by an individualized learning plan developed by the employer, college, and student.
