Welcome to the Teacher Education program at Texas Southmost College!

Texas Southmost College offers an Associate of Arts in Teaching (AAT) degree that consists of lower-division classes that transfer to baccalaureate programs leading to initial Texas teacher certification (Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, 2017).

The Teacher Education program at Texas Southmost College introduces aspiring teachers to the art and science of teaching. Students who complete this program are exposed to the realities of teaching, learning, and the role of education in our global society. Our education courses offer students different opportunities to become active learners through dynamic in-class pedagogical methods, field-based experiences, and experiential/service learning opportunities in partnership with different organizations and schools in our Rio Grande Valley community. Additionally, students have an opportunity to learn about how to use play pedagogy to teach diverse learners.

Essentially, the Teacher Education program at TSC provides students with authentic pedagogical opportunities to begin to develop the necessary knowledge, skills, and dispositions needed to become reflective, professional and highly qualified teachers that can teach diverse learners in the 21st century!

Students may choose between four distinct curricula tracks that require a minimum of 60 credit hours of coursework. These are listed below:
