Students show off do’s & don’ts at Dress for Success Fashion Show |
Texas Southmost College students participated in the Dress for Success Student Fashion Show on Feb. 18, 2016 at the SETB Lecture Hall. With lights set and music playing, students strutted down the catwalk at the Dress for Success Student Fashion Show on Feb. 18, 2016 at the SETB Lecture Hall. Models demonstrated the basic fundamental do's and don'ts for professional interview attire to give students perspective on their clothing options when trying to impress future employers. The first round of models displayed an assortment of unprofessional clothing styles followed by a review from students in the crowd to point out what was wrong with the outfits. "We came up with the idea of having a student fashion show so that we could show the students what is appropriate for an interview", said TSC Instructor for Business Management and Technology Beatriz Castillo. "The appearance for the interview is the most important factor and determines if you get the job you want or not." Following the unprofessional attire review, models donned professional outfits and filed down the runway to show students what future employers are looking for in a prospective job candidate. "We have to prepare the students, not only with the academic skills and the credentials they need to succeed, but also with other skills," said Thelma Sullivan, TSC Coordinator of Transfer, Career and Employment Services. "Be responsible, be punctual, be loyal and definitely dress appropriately for your job." The Dress for Success Student Fashion Show was a collaborative project between the College's Dress for Success Closet and the Transfer, Career and Employment Services. The Dress for Success Closet is located at SETB 1.378 and available to all TSC students who provide documentation of an upcoming interview. Once employed, the student may return for a second outfit and is invited to give back by donating an outfit after three months of continuous employment.
