TSC to host film premiere, short film screenings on Oct. 21 |
Texas Southmost College (TSC) will host the Brownsville premiere of the award-winning film "The Whole," as well as several short film screenings on Saturday, Oct. 21, 2017 at 5:30 p.m. at the TSC Arts Center, located at 90 Taylor Ave. in Brownsville. The movie premiere will begin at 8 p.m. "The Whole" was written and directed by Rodrigo Moreno, and produced by Pink Ape Media, a Brownsville advertising agency. The movie was filmed on the TSC Campus in Brownsville, and around Cameron County. "The Whole" has been an official selection of 10 film festivals around the world and Moreno was recognized with the Best First Time Director Award at the London Independent Film Awards. "We're grateful to TSC for collaborating on this production and giving us the opportunity to showcase the campus, as well as to host the film premiere at a world class facility like the TSC Arts Center," Moreno said. "TSC's support was instrumental for us in winning all of these awards, especially in cinematography." Moreno's film tells the tale of Peter, a university professor struggling to be a writer under the shadow of his father, a Pulitzer prize-winning author. During his journey, Peter encounters a metaphysical entity that could allow him to be famous, if he could harness such a power. Short films from TSC, UTRGV and the Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey, as well as from local independent film maker René Rhi will be shown during the screenings from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Among the shorts films are: Sagrada Palabra, directed by Rafa Quiroga, Bajo la Tinta, directed by Mariana López, Porcelana, directed by Karla Fierro, and Efímero, directed by Marcela Quintanilla and Balbina Canales. Tickets for the movie premiere and film screenings cost $10 for general admission and $8 for students when purchased in-person at the TSC Camille Lightner Center or on the day of the event at the box office. Tickets may also be purchased online in advance for $10. All proceeds from the event will benefit the TSC Foundation. The TSC Foundation is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization formed in 1990 that supports and enhances the role and mission of TSC through activities such as fundraising, provision of funds to the college for the distribution of scholarships, sponsorship of literary/art collections, provision of supplementary funds to the institution for endowments, instructional materials and equipment, and the administration of projects, grants and contracts that enhance the mission of TSC.
