State Grants |
State grants are awarded based on financial aid as determined by the results in the FAFSA. State grants provide financial aid that does not have to be repaid. Some grants require the student to maintain a certain grade point average (GPA or take certain courses. We encourage students to apply by submitting their FAFSA by the priority deadline of March 15th.
Towards Excellence, Access and Success (TEXAS) Grant ProgramThe following information is accurate for students entering the program on or after September 1, 2005. Program Purpose: The Texas Legislature established the TEXAS (Towards EXcellence, Access and Success) Grant to make sure that well-prepared high school graduates with financial need could go to college. Award Amount For 2013-2014 the maximum award for Public Community Colleges is $2,640 for the year. Application Process You apply for the TEXAS Grant when you complete and submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or other application as required by your college's financial aid office. Funding is limited, so you need to submit your application as soon as possible after January 1 of your senior year. The financial aid office at each college and university will determine if TEXAS Grant is part of the aid package that is offered to you. For additional information, visit www.collegefortexans.com Hardship Appeal Policy Should a student fail the renewal requirements, they have the option to submit a Hardship Appeal based on extenuating circumstances. The Hardship Appeal form is available in person at the Financial Aid Office. Texas Educational Opportunity Grant (TEOG)Program Purpose The purpose of the TEOG Program is to provide grants of money to enable eligible students to attend two-year public institutions of higher education in Texas. Texas Public Education Grant (TPEG)A program designed for students who may or may not be eligible for the Federal Pell Grant. Applicants must meet most of the same requirements for a Pell Grant and must show some remaining unmet financial need. Funds do not need to be repaid. Residents, nonresidents and foreign students (both undergraduates and graduates), are eligible for this grant. Applicants must attend a Texas public college or university. Funds are awarded to eligible students on a first-come, first-serve basis until funds are exhausted. |
