Babajide S. Ajanaku, MS, PhD, MD has taught Biological Sciences at several Colleges and Universities on the Eastern corridor of the United States. He has more than fifteen years of College level teaching experience, as well as over twenty years as a Health care professional and a chemist. Dr. Ajanaku graduated with a MS. In Environmental Science in 1994 at NJIT, Newark, NJ., MD. At UTESA, Santo. Domingo DR. in 1998 and with a PhD. in Public Health in 2012.

Catalina Amaral, M.D. has been teaching Anatomy and Physiology for Texas Southmost College since August of 2014. She is board eligible in the state of Texas and has worked with several local doctors, Brownsville Medical Center, Valley Regional Medical Center, and Brownsville Doctors Hospital. During her twelve years of teaching experience, she has taught biology, special education, English as a Second Language, and bilingual education from K-12. She holds a master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction with a focus on Biology and has written curricula for both IDEA public schools and BISD life science classes. Her community service involves judging science fair projects for local schools and the Regional Science Fair.

Martha Casquette has taught General Physics, University Physics, Conceptual Physics, Physical Science, College Algebra, and High School Algebra. She worked for several years for the Center for Gravitational Wave Astronomy (CGWA) as Student Coordinator and with the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Texas at Brownsville/Texas Southmost College (UTB/TSC) as Faculty Associate. She was also a Physics Lecturer at the University of Texas-Pan American for one year. She joined Texas Southmost College in the fall of 2014 as a physics instructor. Ms. Casquette was also the co-creator and coordinator of the Physics Circus, an interactive program designed to show the wonders of physics to the public. She was a member of the National Society of Black Physicists and is a member of the National Society of Hispanic Physicists.

Charity Cavazos, PhD, CSCS has been teaching Anatomy and Physiology for Texas Southmost College since August of 2016. She received a B.S. and M.S. in Exercise Science from the University of Texas at Brownsville, and Ph.D. in Exercise Physiology from the University of Oklahoma. She is also an adjunct professor in the Health and Human Performance department for the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley. She has extensive experience as a strength and conditioning coach for the University of Texas at Brownsville soccer team during 2010-2012. She specializes in sports performance, injury prevention and rehabilitation.

Felicia Farquhar received her undergraduate degree (cum laude) from the University of Texas at Brownsville in 2006 and then earned her Master of Science degree in Biology from the University of Texas at Brownsville in 2008. Within the discipline, her primary area of research includes marine biology and marine ecology. She was also involved in undergraduate research work dealing with several biomedical sciences, such as neurology and infectious diseases. She currently teaches general biology lectures and laboratories for both science and non-science majors.

Celia Flores-Feist, Ed.D. began her career in 1984 at Texas Southmost College (TSC) and continued as a tenured Associate Professor at the University of Texas Brownsville and Texas Southmost College (UTB/TSC). Dr. Flores-Feist returned to TSC in the fall of 2013. She has taught both lower and upper division and graduate chemistry courses. Prior to her career in academia, she was employed as an analytical chemist testing plants, soils, and water for the agricultural industry. Dr. Flores-Feist has been associated with the American Chemical Society as a student affiliate officer, professional member, and faculty advisor. She was also instrumental in starting the student affiliate chapter at UTB/TSC. She has held the position of Treasurer for three years and Secretary for two years for the South Texas Section.

R. Deborah Overath, Ph.D., joined the faculty at Texas Southmost College in January 2017. The 2008 Society for the Advancement of Hispanics/Chicanos and Native Americans in Science (SACNAS) Distinguished Undergraduate Mentor Awardee, Dr. Overath has held faculty positions at both 2-year colleges and 4-year universities since earning a PhD in genetics at The University of Georgia. Trained in population genetics, she also has a deep interest in increasing diversity in STEM fields and is committed to improving teaching and learning to increase recruitment and retention in STEM fields. Dr. Overath currently teaches introductory biology and microbiology courses, including dual enrollment. A life member of SACNAS, Dr. Overath has held leadership positions in that professional organization as well as the Ecological Society of America and the Association of Women in Science.

Carlos D. Partida earned his Master of Science degree in Biology from the University of Texas at Brownsville in May of 2012. He has been teaching general biology courses for both science and non-science majors since August of 2013. He is also a full-time Instructional Assistant for the Sciences, which involves preparing instructional materials for laboratory courses, since January of 2014. He has worked as a research assistant for his master’s thesis from 2009 to 2011, focusing on mesial temporal lobe epilepsy. He co-authored a scientific article, which was published in 2012.

Ruben E. Reyes earned his Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of Texas at Brownsville/Texas Southmost College (UTB/TSC) in 2002. He then acquired his Master of Science in Medical Science from the University of North Texas Health Science Center in 2010. He has taught courses at UTB/TSC before transitioning to the resurging Texas Southmost College in the fall of 2013. He has taught Biology for Non-Science Majors lectures and laboratories. However, his teaching repertoire mainly consists of Anatomy and Physiology lecture and laboratory courses. Aside from teaching, Mr. Reyes has also been a science fair judge at the Episcopal Day School Science Fair as well as at the Brownsville Independent School District Regional Science Fair.
